Electricity Transmission & Distribution

Network Mapping has provided services to a diverse range of industries, mobilizing throughout the world to undertake high-quality LiDAR and conventional surveys.

As background, Network Mapping was originally owned by National Grid plc. However, National Grid made the decision to discontinue the provision of such a service and allowed the key staff to effect a Management Buyout in 2007. In its new form, Network Mapping brings with it all of the key staff and assets that have more than nine years’ experience and 30,000 miles' worth of delivery of high quality engineering products produced from aerial laser surveys.

Network Mapping is pleased to offer the following non-exhaustive list of transmission and distribution products:

PLS-CADD™ models

We are able to produce high-quality 3D engineering PLS-CADD™ models of your electricity transmission lines. These models include detailed information on all proximal objects, both hard features and vegetation, within the survey corridor.

Vegetation management (FAC-003)

Our LiDAR surveys will aid compliance with FAC-003-1, a regulatory standard introduced by NERC, requiring US utilities to establish Transmission Vegetation Management Programs, to reduce vegetation- related outages. Using high-resolution aerial LiDAR technology, we can rapidly detect and report the exact location of grow-in and fall-in infringements, at maximum rated conductor temperature and/ or wind 'blow-out' conditions.

Facility Ratings - (FAC-008)

Our LiDAR surveys will aid in compliance with FAC-008, a regulatory standard introduced by NERC, concerning hard infringements.

Improving Utilisation

Using the full PLS-CADD™ models produced from a LiDAR survey, we are able to detect any operational constraints on the thermal rating of a line. Our chartered OHL engineers can recommend measures to increase the rating of the line, at minimal cost. The transmission line is modelled and studied, for a number of loading scenarios and conductor options. We then perform structural analysis of towers, and report any failing members.

New line routing and design

We provide topographic surveys and engineering support for the routing of new lines, to minimize project costs and expedite project completion.
